Maybe it depends on what you’re doing or who you’re going to see. For me, if I’m staying home, I’m totally fine staying in my PJs all day. But if I’m going out to see friends, I’ll actually put on jeans and take a little more time getting ready.
But let me ask you this—when you go into your closet to pick out clothes, do they ever just jump off the hanger and onto your body? 😂 Yeah, me neither. If that ever happened, I’d probably run screaming out of my room!
All joking aside, we all know it takes effort to get ourselves ready to go out. Honestly, the older I get, the less time I spend on makeup or hair—it’s just sooo much work. Lol! But when I was younger, I spent way more time making sure every detail was just right. Why? Because I usually feel more confident when I put in a little extra effort.Also, I don’t know about you, but even when I’m staying in for the day, if I get dressed and put on shoes, I’m way more productive. Can you relate?Here’s my point: what we put on early in the day makes a big difference! It’s not just about clothes—it’s a mindset. When we put more effort into how we present ourselves, we actually feel more confident and purpose-driven.But let’s go a little deeper than our physical appearance for a second. What about our soul?The soul is your mind, will, and emotions. So how long does it take you to get your soul ready in the morning? Sounds like a weird question, right? I thought so too at first—but it makes total sense.If putting effort into what we wear helps us feel more confident, how much more confident and purpose-driven will we be when we’re intentional about what we put on spiritually each day?After all, shouldn’t we care more about what’s on the inside than what’s on the outside?

This isn’t just a cute idea—it’s actually a biblical concept. There are several places in Scripture where God tells us to put on certain qualities.
Just like our clothes don’t magically jump onto our bodies, these spiritual qualities don’t just appear—we have to choose to put them on.
Picture all these Christlike qualities from Colossians 3:12-15—compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience—like they’re hanging in your closet. They won’t automatically jump onto you. You have to put on intentionally.

As believers, we can wear these qualities every day because we are “in Christ.” We’re made in His image, which means we have access to His character. But we still have to choose to let the Holy Spirit grow these qualities in us.
That happens when we renew our minds daily with God’s Word—reading it, studying it, letting it reshape how we think. The verses in your Bible won’t just leap off the page and into your heart—you have to open it, read it, and live it out.
That’s how you ARISE + SHINE—put on what reflects Him. 🌟

The Armor of God is another powerful example of what we must put on as Christians.
This is serious stuff. The truth is, we do have an enemy. The Bible says Satan “accuses the brethren” day and night (Revelation 12:10) and that he’s “a prowling lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
I know that sounds intense, but ignoring that reality doesn’t make it go away. God’s Word gives us the power and wisdom to stand firm and walk in victory—if we take the time to “get dressed” spiritually.
“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
— Isaiah 55:11

I once talked with my sons over breakfast about people risking their lives to smuggle Bibles into countries where it’s illegal. It seemed crazy to them. It's not like they don't love God's Word, but that in places like the U.S., we have multiple Bibles lying around—and even apps that put Scripture right on our phones. It’s so easy to take that for granted and forget what a treasure God’s Word truly is.
Let’s look at one more passage that warns us about what not to put on—the Bible’s “worst dressed list,” if you will. 😅 (Matthew 6:16-21)

Choose a verse to speak out loud every morning for a month. Post verses around your room or on your phone background. Psalm 119:11 says to hide God’s Word in your heart so you won’t sin against Him. In fact, that would be a great verse to memorize first!
